Known Discount Conflicts

If your store’s discounts aren't showing up at checkout, it’s likely due to conflicts with other apps or features that interrupt the Upsell Builder app's discount application process.

Follow the guidelines below to ensure the discounts work smoothly with your Shopify store:

Common Causes of Discount Conflicts and How to Fix Them

1. ✅ Avoid Using Multiple Upsell or Cross-Sell Apps

Issue: Shopify apps are not designed to work together. Using multiple upsell or cross-sell apps can cause them to compete for control over the checkout button, resulting in discount failures.

Solution:

  • Uninstall other upsell apps.
  • Contact those app developers to ensure their code is fully removed from your theme.
  • Stick to the built-in upsell offers within the Upsell Builder app, which work seamlessly together without conflicts.

2. ✅ Use the Standard Shopify Checkout

Issue: The Upsell Engine only works with Shopify’s standard checkout. Custom checkouts (like Zipify OCU, Recharge, Carthook, or Intercart) sometimes bypass Shopify's native discount mechanisms.

Solution:

  • Switch to the Shopify standard checkout to allow the Upsell Engine app to apply discounts.
  • Avoid using apps that completely replace the default checkout flow.

3. ✅ Disable Dynamic Checkout Buttons (PayPal, Apple Pay, etc.)

Issue: Dynamic checkout buttons allow users to skip the cart, preventing the Upsell Engine app from applying discounts.

Solution:

  • Hide these buttons manually via your Shopify theme settings.

🚫 Dynamic buttons may bypass cart-based calculations essential for Upsell Engine app to assign discounts properly.

4. ✅ Disable Skip-Cart Features

Issue: Skip-cart features, whether from your theme or another app, redirect visitors directly to checkout, bypassing discount logic.

Solution:

  • Turn off any skip-cart settings in your theme or third-party apps.

🔁 The cart page is a vital step in applying discounts — skipping it breaks the flow.

5. ✅ Redirect Visitors to the Cart from Email Campaigns

Issue: Abandoned cart emails that send users straight to checkout may skip the cart, causing discounts to fail.

Solution:

  • When creating abandoned cart emails (e.g., through Shopify or Klaviyo), link to the cart page, not the checkout page.

📧 Bringing customers back to the cart ensures discounts are properly activated by the Upsell Engine app .
